INTELLECTUM
FAITH SEEKING UNDERSTANDING
I forgot how I first came across the word intellectum, which is said to have been coined by Anselm of Canterbury, the founder of Scholasticism. Originally, I wanted to give this name to my first fund.
Above all else, I love the ethic expressed in the phrase that contains this word: Fides quaerens intellectum—faith seeking understanding.
Understanding does not exist as a finished product; it always happens in the process of understanding itself, and it requires us to believe that understanding is possible.
This is not a tool, but a moral principle.
I have always been helped and guided by this principle, whatever situation I have faced.
I want to carry this moral into my business and resist the temptation to become obsessed with easy answers.
